Grove Farm Homestead - This 80-acre sugar plantation belonged to George N. Wilcox and his nieces who built their home here in 1864. It was turned into a museum in 1978 and depicts the rise to fame of the prominent family. The main house is in pristine conditon with walls and a staircase made of native Koa wood. USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park - USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park's mission is to restore and preserve the World War II submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287), and submarine-related artifacts on our grounds and in the Museum. Bowfin Park's parent organization, the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association (PFSMA), is a non-profit group that receives no state or federal funding. Visitors are given a walkman-style cassette player that narrates their tour as they explore this historic WWII submarine to imagine what life on board must have been like for her 80-man crew. USS Bowfin was launched on 7 December 1942 and completed nine successful war patrols. For her wartime service she also earned both the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Unit Commendation. Subaru Telescope - Scientists at universities in Japan and Hawaii teamed up to obtain the deepest infrared image of an almost empty field in the sky. Palace Theatre - The Palace was built and opened in 1925 at the peak of the heyday for American movie palaces. It was originally part of a small family of theaters owned and operated by Adam C. Baker, a dashing Hawaiian gentleman who was the nephew of the last royal governors of the island of Hawaii. Mokuaikaua Church - All of the interior posts and beam are of 'ohi'a wood, the pews, pulpit and interior paneling is koa wood. The church walls are of lava rock cemented together by mortar made by mixing sand and lime. The lime came from burnt and crushed coral. Islanders gathered the coral from the sea. The church is 120 feet in length and 48 feet wide while the steeple is 112 feet tall.
