Waterfire Providence - WaterFire centers on a series of 100 bonfires that blaze just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence. The string of fires illuminates nearly two-thirds of a mile of urban public spaces and parks, and residents and visitors gather to stroll along the river while listening to a memorable and eclectic selection of classical and world music that serves as a melodic accompaniment to the normal sounds of urban life. The fires are tended from sunset to past midnight by black-clad performers in boats who pass quietly before the flames.
Providence Performing Arts Center - The Theatre, which is now called the Providence Performing Arts Center, was opened as a Loew's Movie Palace on October 6, 1928. It was designed by George and C.W. Rapp of Chicago, brothers who became renowned as one of the finest teams of theatre architects in America. The Loew's philosophy was to sell tickets to theatres - not movies; this was the inspiration for building this opulent theatre which cost $2.5 million upon completion.

Windmill Cottage - The "Windmill Cottage" is a private residence and there are no tours. But finding the distinctive house makes an excellent excuse to explore East Greenwich. Longfellow was known to have visited the formal gardens of the Greene family's homestead, a stone's throw westward from the Windmill Cottage. This house and gardens are also not open to tours, but Longfellow had to have traversed the road between the houses many times.

Norman Bird Sanctuary - The Norman Bird Sanctuary is a 300+ acre wildlife refuge offering over 7 miles of hiking trails. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woods or hike to the top of Hanging Rock to a breathtaking view of the ocean and surrounding areas. Newport Art Museum - The museum collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets historic and contemporary visual arts of the highest quality with an emphasis on the rich artistic heritage of Newport, the state of Rhode Island and southeastern New England. Astors' Beechwood Mansion - Beechwood was built in 1851 for a New York City merchant named Daniel Parrish; the architects were Andrew Jackson Downing and Calvert Vaux. William Backhouse Astor, Jr., purchased the mansion in 1881, and it became the social center for New York Society for twenty-five years of the Gilded Age. William B., as his wife called him, was the grandson of John Jacob Astor, the German immigrant who made himself the richest man in America by investing in fur trading and real estate.

The Old Colony and Newport Scenic Railroad - Sit Back, relax, and enjoy the salt air breeze as you travel along the cozy west shore of Aquidneck island (Newport RI) in an open platform coach built 1904 or an 1884 parlor car. Coach passengers enjoy a ride in a vintage car with a "turn of the century" atmosphere seating in one of 72 seats heated by a pot belly stove. Beavertail Light and Park - The southernmost part of Conanicut Island is known as Beavertail, for its shape on the map. This rocky, windswept point looks south to the open Atlantic Ocean and separates the East and West Passages of Narragansett Bay. It has hosted beacons and lighthouses since at least 1705. The current lighthouse was built in 1856. The lighthouse and the area around it is part of the Rhode Island park system. It includes a lighthouse museum, grassy, wooded and rocky areas as well as walking and biking paths. The rocky perimeter can be a place for peaceful contemplation or energetic climbing and exploration.

Fire Department Memorial Building - Antique firefighting equipment is on display here, including a horse-drawn steam engine from 1894 and photographs of fire fighters at work and at play. In the museum is an authentic handtub dating from the mid 19th century.

Jamestown Windmill - Located a mile north of town on North Road, the Jamestown windmill was built in 1787 replacing a windmill that was destroyed during the Revolutionary War. Before steam engines and electric motors, Jamestown, with no free-running streams to tap for water power, had to rely on the sea breeze to power the grinding of corn.

Jamestown History Museum - Housed in a 19th century schoolhouse, at 92 Narragansett Avenue, the Jamestown Historical Society operates the Jamestown Museum. Holdings include a collection of ferry system memorabilia, historic photos, maps, and other items that illustrate Jamestown's past.

Watson Farm - Watson Farm, 1796 North Road, is a special place owned by the Society for Preservation of New England Antiquities that provides insight into the way people lived in Jamestown for three hundred years. The main farmhouse was built in 1796, and the farm has been in continuous use ever since. The 280 acre farm has cattle, sheep, horses, a large vegetable garden and two miles of picturesque trails. The property includes salt water estuaries, swamps, woodlands, hayfields, orchards, and open pastures. A visit can be a rich learning experience as well as a reminder of a lifestyle that flourished in many similar seaside farms in Rhode Island.

Fort Wetherill State Park - Fort Wetherill State Park, situated upon 100 foot high granite cliffs across the water from Fort Adams State Park, is a former coastal defense battery and training camp. Known for its spectacular view of Newport Harbor and the East Passage of Narragansett Bay, Fort Wetherill has been a popular sight for viewing the numerous Tall Ship Events and America’s Cup Races. The area is also a major attraction for scuba diving, with Diving Clubs from New York State, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island using the facilities at the boat ramp year round.
