Grand River Museum - The museum was started to establish a forum with topics devoted to culture and paleontology, but with a regional emphasis. The purpose is for the region's heritage and treasures to be shared with others in a setting conducive to education, exchanges of information and enjoyment. Although the museum is located in Perkins County and primarily devotes its projects and exhibits to the Grand River region of northwestern South Dakota, the actual geographic area covered is more extensive and also covers parts of southwestern North Dakota. Lake Hiddenwood State Park - Melting glaciers carved the valley of Hiddenwood Creek. Traditionally, this area was home for several American Indian tribes. Early explorers crossed this area on their way between Big Stone Lake and the Rocky Mountains. The first European settlers named the area because no trees were visible on the vast prairie until they reached the crest of the hills overlooking the valley. In 1927, the Department of Game and Fish used a new technique called an earthen dam to make Lake Hiddenwood, one of the first artificial lakes in South Dakota.

Sitting Bull Memorial - A ten-minute trip from Mobridge, six miles west on US-12 and then four miles south on a paved road, will bring you to the Sitting Bull Memorial. This is the final resting place of the great Sioux Indian leader, after his body was disinterred in 1953 from Fort Yates in a surreptitious and still-controversial move. Whatever injustice or disrespect exhuming his body may have incurred, this magnificent view, high atop a palisade hilltop looking southeast over the river.

Sitting Bull Crystal Caverns - In 1929, Alex and Mamie Duhamel and their sons, Bud and Pete, began exploring and developing an impressive cave located on their property in Rockerville Gulch, a beautiful red rock canyon just east of the old-west gold town of Rockerville. The Duhamel's wanted to share this subterrainean geological treasure with visitors to the Black Hills and began preparations to lead tours through the caverns. Black Elk (center), with friend Iron Hawk (left) and son Ben (right) playing a drum during the pageant. Black Elk and Iron Hawk both were survivors of the Battle of the Little Bighorn where General Custer was defeated. With help from family friend and Lakota medicine man Black Elk, the Duhamels organized the Sioux Indian Pageant to help promote the caverns. The pageant offered a colorful and educational introduction to Lakota custom and culture. Indian families from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation were invited to spend the summers in the Hills participating in the pageant.

Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society - The Dakotas were hot news in the latter part of the 19th century. The illustrated papers assigned reporters to cover events in the West. This is the way the American ideal of the Wild West began - on the pages of sales oriented newspapers and in the minds of readers who never set foot west of the Mississippi River. Farmers, Indians, miners and soldiers marched across the pages of the eastern press, protraying the West and Dakota as a raw, untamed frontier. Some of the early prints idealized American Indian life; later prints were brutal, unsympathetic and greatly exaggerated.The exhibit consists of 26 framed prints with labels included within the frames. The Homestead was restored in 1962 by Keith and Dorothy Crew. They started The Gasoline Station in 1973. In 1995 it was rebuilt. Both businesses are still operated by the Crew family.

Mammoth Site Museum - More than 26,000 years ago, large Columbian and woolly mammoths were trapped and died in a spring-fed pond near what is now the southwest edge of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Discovered by chance in 1974 while excavating for a housing development the Mammoth Site is the world's largest Columbian mammoth exhibit and research center for Pleistocene studies.
