Waswagoning - Nick Hockings, a member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of the Lake Superior Ojibwe, realizes that there is a lot of misinformation about his native culture. Therefore, he has chosen to do something about it. For almost ten years, Hockings has been presenting cultural demonstrations at schools and festivals, inviting children to put on a traditional head piece or vest and beat a drum, or enticing audiences to join in powwow dances. However, Hockings had a dream--to build and authentic Ojibwe village on the reservation. Three years ago, he was able to realize that dream! When 80 acres of Lac du Flambeau reservation land became available, Nick Hockings and his wife, Charlotte, purchased the property. Without financial help from either the state or the tribe, they constructed a recreated 17th century Ojibwe village on 20 acres of land. Many people, Indians and non-Indians, donated countless hours putting up lodges, clearing walking paths, digging fire pits--to help Mr. Hockings bring a dream to life!

The Eisenhower Project - The Museum's Eisenhower collection has been dazzling audiences both young and old for over 35 years. Comprised of British Railways Board No. 60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower and General Eisenhower's World War II command train coaches, this historic collection brings in more visitors year after year than just about any other exhibit at the Museum.Although both the Eisenhower locomotive and command coaches are quite impressive in their own right, it is widely believed that the current exhibit does neither these historic pieces, nor the man behind them, justice. With that in mind, the National Railroad Museum, in conjunction with Museum friend and project director, Don Meyer, announces the Eisenhower Project. The goal of the Eisenhower Project is the construction of a permanent exhibit in the Museum's Lenfestey Center that better interprets for Museum guests the significance of both the Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive and the command coaches.

Begun in the early 1940's, it overlooks the breathtaking panorama of Wyoming Valley.
